2010 Update
Pittards plc remains commited to continuous improvement in environmental performance.Accreditation to the internationally recognised environmental standard ISO 14001:2004 continues to be maintained. At the end of 2006, the production of cow hide leathers was started at the Yeovil factory after the closure of the Leeds plant. The 3 year period shown is representative of the changed production mix.
The graphs below show the steady improvement in performance with regard to the utilisation of water and energy in the production of every square meter of hide and skin leather.Over the 3 year period 2007-2009 inclusive, there was an 11% improvement in the amount of energy required to produce every square metre of leather.
Over the same period, there was a 28% improvement in the amount of water required to produce every square metre of leather produced. The actual figures themselves compare very favourably with the best performance standards in the industry worldwide.
The graph of solvent used per square metre of leather produced also shows a steady improvement in the reduction of solvent/VOC.Pittards performance in this area has been well within the legislative limit of 75gm of VOC per square metre of leather produced but the trend figures from 2007 to 2009 show a steady improvement from 18.72gm VOC/sqm to 7.99gm VOC/sqm of leather produced. These improvements have come about through a mixture of investment in more efficient equipment (eg, new gas boiler and direct gas fired water heater) and improved technical processing.
Pittards plc continues to comply with all UK and European legislation with regard to environmental performance and has been proactive in ensuring continued compliance in areas such as REACH, and restricted substances
